For Honor Update Separates Skirmish, Elimination Into 2 Playlists

Along with a huge patch today buffing certain fighters, Ubisoft’s For Honor has also received a server-side update that separates the Elimination and Skirmish modes into two separate playlists. Community manager Eric Pope noted that the change was relatively easy to make thanks to strong player numbers but as he notes, “This doesn’t mean we’ll be able keep it set this way forever.”

Originally, both modes were including in the Deathmatch playlist. One could set a preference for their desired playlist but it still wasn’t a surefire way to get your mode of choice.

Given how Elimination doesn’t allow for respawns while Skirmish does, the difference was enough for players to argue for their separation. It also doesn’t help that the map voting screen doesn’t indicate which mode you voted for.

What are your thoughts on the Skirmish and Elimination being separated in For Honor? Let us know below in the comments.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War Features In-App Purchases

Monolith’s Middle-Earth: Shadow of War took us by surprise yesterday, even though US retailer Target had accidentally leaked it beforehand. Those who ordered the $99 Gold Edition could receive a fair number of goodies including a Season Pass with all the expansions. A Gold War Chest was also mentioned though its contents are still unknown.

The game’s Steam listing could provide some clues. Middle-Earth: Shadow of War sports “in-app purchases”, which are essentially micro-transactions, and the Gold War Chest may just be one tier. The $300 Mithril Edition sports an exclusive Mithril War Chest, for instance.

Again, it’s not known what these in-app purchases do and how essential they will be to gameplay. We’ll have to wait for more information in the coming weeks.

The first gameplay footage for Middle-Earth: Shadow of War will be out on March 8th. The full game arrives on August 22nd for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Overwatch Competitive Play Season 4 Notes Coming Soon

Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch may see the deployment of its Server Browser, changes to defence hero Bastion and other additions later today. However, one thing we know for sure is that season 4 of Competitive Play will begin.

Has anything changed from Season 3? As per the official Overwatch Twitter, answering a query about season 4 notes: “You can expect more on Season 4 between now and when it begins.”

One point of contention that Blizzard was supposedly looking into are the stalls and draws that occur on two checkpoint maps like Volskaya Industries, Temple of Anubis and Hanamura. What changes these maps could receive is anyone’s guess but it should hopefully make Competitive Play less frustrating.

What are your thoughts on season 4 of Competitive Play and what do you hope to see? Could the Server Browser and Bastion changes arrive today? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information.

Halo Wars 2 Demo Now Available on Xbox One

343 Industries’ Halo Wars 2, developed by The Creative Assembly (of Total War: Warhammer fame), is currently available for Xbox One and Windows 10. However, if you want to try the game out without buying it, then Microsoft has announced that the free demo is now available for Xbox One. The Windows 10 version will be available “soon”.

In the demo, players have access to one campaign mission “The Signal” along with Blitz Firefight mode, the new card-based multiplayer mode. This version only allows you to fight AI foes with a pre-built deck. You won’t be able to matchmake with other players.

Halo Wars 2 received fairly good reviews from critics but launched without the promised ranked multiplayer mode. 343 Industries has noted that more work was required for the same but you can expect it to arrive “soon”.

What are your thoughts on Halo Wars 2? Let us know below and stay tuned for more updates in the coming days.

Destiny Weekly Reset: Fallen SABER Nightfall, Void Burn Heroics and More

The weekly reset has come and gone for Bungie’s Destiny with a whole range of familiar activities to complete but with different modifiers. The Nightfall is the Fallen S.A.B.E.R. strike with Epic, Brawler, Grounded, Chaff and Fresh Troops modifiers active. This means you do increased melee damage but have no radar, take more damage in the air and have to deal with additional enemies. Joy. Then again, this is the only way to get Ice Breaker via Zavalla’s weekly bounty so snap to it.

The SIVA Crisis Heroic playlist has Heroic, Ironclad, Void Burn and Brawler active, allowing for Voidwalkers and Nightstalkers to have somewhat of a field day. Keep those Telestos and Dark Drinkers handy though.

The raid challenge for this week is Aksis in Wrath of the Machine. For more information on material exchanges with factions, bounties and more, head here. Thoughts on this week’s activities? Let us know below.

Battlefield 1 They Shall Not Pass Gets New Trailers Showcasing Two Of Its Maps

Battlefield 1 is getting its first bit of DLC, They Shall Not Pass, soon- it’s releasing next month (and is actually currently in the Community Test Environment at the moment). Ahead of that release, DICE and EA have gone ahead and released two brand new trailers for the game’s DLC, showcasing two new maps, as well as some of the weapons in it.

The new maps in question are Fort de Vaux and Rupture, of which the latter in particular appears to be the most stunning looking in the map so far- which is really saying something, given that Battlefield 1 is just a stunning looking game in general. You can check out the trailers for yourself below, and see for yourself if you agree, however.

Battlefield 1 is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Are you getting this DLC? Let us know in the comments section below, and remember to stay tuned to GamingBolt for all the latest coverage and information on the game.

Xbox Game Pass More Details Revealed: Discounts, Xbox Live, And More

Earlier today, Microsoft announced the Xbox Game Pass, an intriguing service where, for $10 a month, costumers get to download from a catalog of over 100 games. It sounds like a great idea- like a Netflix for games, without the uncertainties that are associated with PS Now (and extended to current generation games)- essentially, like a larger scale EA Access.

Now, some more details regarding the service have come to light- for starters, it sounds like subscribing to this service entails you to a 20% discount on Xbox one game purchases, and 10% off for add on content, Season Passes, and DLC (as long as the game itself is available in the Game Pass library). The service is also entirely independent of Xbox live Gold- you don’t need to be a subscriber of one to be a subscriber of the other. That said, naturally, if you want to play your Xbox Game Pass games online, you will need a subscription.

There will be no limit to how many games you can download at a time, and you can play them for as long as you like, as long as your subscription does not lapse. If it does, the games become unavailable to play (unless you bought them). Any Achievements and progress for Xbox Game Pass games remain permanently attached to your account.

On the whole, it’s a surprisingly good service with no catch. It’s good to see something like this come out of Microsoft- I think most Xbox owners would be well benefitted from subscribing to this, much like I said for EA Access previously.

Xbox Scorpio Will Be Marketed With 4K As A Key Pillar, Says Analyst

With the Xbox Scorpio, Microsoft is apparently responding to the fact that the PS4 is the most powerful system this generation, routinely capable of achieving higher resolutions on mot games natively than the Xbox One can. And so, the Xbox Scorpio has been created- the most powerful console ever, and capable of achieving 4K resolutions natively, at least if Microsoft’s statements about the system so far are to be believed.

And according to Michael Goodman, an analyst at Strategy Analytics, that last point in particular will be something that Microsoft drums up as it readies to market the Scorpio. “Can you really tell the difference between playing games in upscaled versus native 4K?” Goodman said to We Write Things. “Again, it’s one of those aspects that’s really going to be a marketing tool. Microsoft will be able to say, ‘yeah, we’re doing native 4K,’ just like Sony can now say that they have the most powerful system. However, when push comes to shove, it is hard to tell the difference between native and upscaled 4K.”

He also mentioned how Sony might approach marketing the PS4, what with it no longer being the most powerful system on the market. “Interestingly enough, for the first time, Sony is on the other end of that conversation” he said. “They’ll need to take a page out of Microsoft’s playbook- how do you market a less powerful console?”

I honestly expect that Sony will not have much problems marketing the PS4 even after the Scorpio is out. The massive install base it has gives it inertia and momentum, not to mention the massive library, especially of exclusive games, that the PS4 already has over the Xbox One. Scorpio should be able to do fine for itself- but I legitimately don’t see ti being much of a threat for Sony at all.

The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild Receives Second Review

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s reviews will be coming in later this week, but print media has already started to go and publish its reviews for the title. We already know that EDGE has given the game a historic 10/10 score – and now, the German magazine GamePro has shared its score for the game too. And it is almost unprecedented for them as well.

Breath of the Wild has scored a 94 from GamePro, which is the second highest score they have awarded to any game to date, and the highest score they have awarded so far this generation. Breath of the Wild is rated higher by this magazine than Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Bloodborne, and Grand Theft Auto 5. It is also rated higher than its own predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

So what is this one game that scored higher than a 94? It was Grand Theft Auto 4, back in 2008, that managed to score a 95. That’s it- only that one game ever has scored more than Breath of the Wild. I think that Nintendo may have created something very special here indeed. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launches later this week on Wii U and Nintendo Switch.

Horizon Zero Dawn Video Shows Off Skills And Abilities You Can Unlock In The Game

Horizon: Zero Dawn launches tomorrow, and ahead of its launch, Sony and Guerrilla Games have been sharing new trailers and videos from the game to get us all hyped. That’s all well and good, but today, they did something better- today, Guerrilla Games released a new video illustrating some gameplay mechanics in the game, so players can be better prepared for the game.

In this new video, Guerrilla Games’s Game Director Mathijis de Jonge first discusses how the studio approached the question of depth in Horizon‘s RPG mechanics. Managing Director Hermen Hulst then chips in, noting that the game is essentially an RPG translated into an action game. The two then proceed to show off the skill trees in the game, explaining the abilities players can get as they get more XP, which are split into three sections of the skill tree- Prowler, Brave, and Forager, corresponding to stealth, combat, and resource gathering respectively.

You can check out this video for yourself below. Horizon: Zero Dawn launches exclusively on PS4 tomorrow.

UK Charts: For Honor Still On Top, Halo Wars 2 Debuts

Even with competition from Microsoft’s Halo Wars 2, Ubisoft’s For Honor managed to maintain its number 1 position on UK game charts according to Gfk Chart-Track. Halo Wars 2 still debuted fairly strong in second place with Grand Theft Auto 5 in third place and in no position to ever leave the UK top ten. It’s followed by FIFA 17, another long-standing placeholder that’s held the top spot several times since releasing in September 2016. Sniper Elite 4 fell from second place to fifth.

The rest of the top ten is full of the usual suspects. Battlefield 1 is in sixth place, Rocket League is in seventh and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is in eighth. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Forza Horizon 3 round out the top ten for this week.

Despite For Honor’s popularity, it could eventually be overcome by Horizon: Zero Dawn which releases on March 1st for Europe (February 28th for North America). Tune in next week to see how eventually wins and let us know your thoughts below.

Mass Effect: Andromeda Is A Self Contained Story But There May Be Sequels

When Mass Effect was first released back in 2007, even then BioWare knew that it was just the first instalment in a three-part saga. However, with the upcoming Andromeda, it seems like BioWare are going for a much more self-contained story, and they’ve said that while there’s always the possibility that there may be direct sequels to the game in the future, there’s no way of being sure about that right now.

When asked in an interview with Game Informer whether Mass Effect: Andromeda would tell a story that it intended to be the first party in another new saga, producer Mike Gamble said, “Honestly, it’s impossible for us to say that right now. We don’t know how many people are going to fall in love with the Ryders.”

“There are definitely stories we want to tell that are related to this story, there’s definitely continuation, escalation, a metastory that ties everything together,” Gamble explained. “But it’s too early to say whether it’s going to be one of the Ryders. What I don’t want to do is tie players into… ‘Well, if you don’t know what happened with the first one, you have to play the first one to understand the second.’ We have to do better at that because that’s isolating for certain people, but at the same time we have to maintain character continuity and choices and all that kind of stuff.

“And I’m not saying we have to import anything at all or anything like that,” he continued. “What I’m saying is the Helius cluster is a living thing; things are happening in it, decisions are being made, and we have to make sure we reward players for that.”

Mass Effect: Andromeda is now less than a month away from release, and it recently went gold. Gearing up for the release of the game, we’ve been taking a look back at the story of the Mass Effect series so far in a five part feature. You can watch part 1 below.

Nintendo Switch Uses 4GB Of Samsung’s LPDDR4 RAM

We know at last what kind of memory the Nintendo Switch uses. Samsung went ahead and outed the information on its website (presumably prematurely, because the information has now been taken down), giving us the final piece of the puzzle as far as the Switch’s hardware specs go.

The Switch uses 2 GB of Samsung’s LPDDR4 modules, resulting in a cumulative 4GB of RAM shared across the CPU and GPU. The speed of these modules is 1600 MHz, resulting in total effective bandwidth of 25.6 GB/s. These specs may seem paltry for a home console- but again, remember that the Switch is designed with the portable form factor as the baseline (and indeed, this reinforces the notion that the Switch is a great portable and a kind of mediocre home console).

These chips are also the same ones that Samsung uses in its own Galaxy phones- so at least we know we are getting something market leading here.

Mass Effect Andromeda: Most Quests Still Playable After Ending

Previews for Bioware’s Mass Effect: Andromeda are starting to emerge along with the recent gameplay series video that highlights profiles, favourites and your new squad-mates. However, in an interesting little twist, it seems that a large amount of the quests will be available even after the main story is finished.

This is according to lead designer Ian Frazier when he spoke to PC Gamer. Speaking about time-sensitive quests, Frazier said, “There’s nothing that’s explicitly time-sensitive, but there are two things that are kind of in that vein. One is, there’s a handful of quests that if you finish the main story, are no longer accessible.

“But it’s a pretty small percentage. But the vast majority of the game, including the loyalty missions, Mass Effect 2 style, you can do even after you finish the main story. Most parts are still open.”

Mass Effect: Andromeda is out on March 21st for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Spider-Man PS4 Will Show The World Why The Character Is So Awesome

We are getting what could dethrone Batman: Arkham City as the best comic book superhero game ever made with Insomniac Games’ upcoming Spider-Man. Though not a whole lot is known about the title, the prospect of a developer as talented, and with a sense of humor as defined and whimsical as Insomniac, working on a property like Spider-Man has us giddy.

And while Insomniac themselves are still not too ready to talk about the upcoming game just yet, at a keynote at DICE Summit 2017, Marvel Games Creative Director Bill Rosemann discussed just what players and fans can expect from the game.

“You may have heard that we’re making a Spider-Man game with Ted Price’s team at Insomniac and our friends at Sony Interactive Entertainment,” Rosemann said. “The other day we were sitting around talking… Insomniac is only ten minutes away from Marvel Games offices… and we’re eating lunch and talking, asking each other: “hey, when did you first get into Spider-Man? And we all realized we had the same story. We discovered him when we were very little. Not only that, we all realized that we all owned the same Spider-Man underoos back in the day.

“And it feels like our lives have driven us to this moment. This is our purpose: to show the world why this character is so awesome. To bring this fictional world into the real world. It’s very personal for us. We’re going to focus our life’s journey into this game, to celebrate him with the world.”

It certainly sounds like a noble goal and pursuit- and if Spider-Man PS4 can capture the sense of the character as well as Batman: Arkham Asylum did for Batman, then Marvel, Insomniac, and Sony could have a hit on their hands.

Overwatch League Begins in Q3 2017

Announced at BlizzCon 2017, the Overwatch League finally has a start date of sorts. Blizzard Entertainment revealed that the eSports league will begin in Q3 2017. Blizzard eSports director Nate Nanzer spoke in a recent interview (translation via Reddit user bartlet4us) about the same and noted that regular seasons would start in 2018.

Till then, teams will be built up and competition will be region-based with major stadiums on the cards for hosting games. Nanzer also wants professional Overwatch players to play full-time with salaries with profits coming from ticket sales, merchandise and whatnot.

Teams won’t be restricted by nationality or gender either. “We aim for diversity in sex, race, and rolls, etc. If the team wants to, they are free to have not only multi-sex team, but they are also free to have players with different nationalities. It is a region based league, but there are no boundaries in region or nationality when it comes to players.”

It also seems that in-game DLC for supporting teams will also be a thing. What are your thoughts on the Overwatch League? Let us know in the comments.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s First Review is 10/10 From EDGE

EDGE Issue #304 is finally out and NeoGAF has revealed its review scores, key among them being The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Long story short, the publication gave the game a 10 out of 10 rating, one of its rarer accolades.

According to further details, the game is incredibly dense and it’s possible to be distracted by several things, “an absolute, and unremitting pleasure to get lost in”. There are more than 100 shrines and the world is incredibly realized. It’s possible to acquire all the necessary tools from the first four shrines (which is the opening hour).

Four different beasts must be exorcised, each having a few sub-missions, a dungeon and a boss fight. These beasts offer stat boosts and new powers with huge cooldowns that can apparently “break” the game. The main story can apparently be finished in roughly 20 hours. The combat is apparently a little “unpredictable” but it works for encouraging you try different tools and powers.

Finally, though the frame rate is uneven on the Wii U version, dropping at certain times like where the weather becomes heavy, but it stays stable when it matters.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is out on March 3rd for the Wii U and Switch.

The costume itself was not shown off, and we don’t have much details on it yet- we don’t even know when the costume will launch. But fans of both games will probably be happy to know that it is coming, at any rate.

Gravity Rush 2 launched exclusively on the PlayStation 4 earlier this year, and is available worldwide. NieR Automata will launch on the PS4 and PC. It will be available in Japan this week, while the west gets it early next month.

Injustice 2’s New Trailer Gives Us Its Own Take On Batman vs Superman

Warner Bros. and NetherRealm’s upcoming DC all stars fighting game sequel, Injustice 2, just got a new trailer, showing us the iconic deathmatch that comic book fans the world over excitedly think about- Batman, taking on Superman. As in the original Injustice, Injustice 2 will let players decide the outcome to such a match up for themselves.

That’s not the only cool matchup that this trailer shows us, however- it also shows us Wonder Woman taking on Harley Quinn, which is surprisingly not as one sided as you would think. Plus, Supergirl and Robin also make appearances here, though sadly, not too substantial ones. Cyborg’s in there too, though again, he gets overshadowed by the bigger stars (which in this case means everyone else).

You can check out the trailer for yourself. Injustice 2 will launch on Xbox One and PS4 on May 16- will you be picking this game up? Let us know in the comments section below.

Mass Effect Andromeda Trailer Shows Off New Mechanics, UI, and Characters

Bioware’s Mass Effect Andromeda is less than a month from release, and the developer has released a brand new trailer for the eagerly anticipated fourth instalment in its science fiction RPG epic saga. Leveling up, and how the old class system comes into play while doing so, is explained in the trailer, before it moves on to show us some new UI features, a lot of which seem to be very reminiscent of Dark Souls. Titanfall 2 Live Fire Update Releasing Today

Respawn Entertainment’s next free update for Titanfall 2 will go live on February 23rd with Live Fire. This new 6v6, best-of-5 rounds mode will come with two mode-specific maps. Along with Live Fire, players can look forward to a new execution animation, a new Coliseum map and some balance changes to certain weapons. The Devotion, for instance, now has some “very far damage settings” which basically means you can’t cross-map players with it anymore. Additional kick has been added to the first shot of the spree to ensure single-shot tapping is harder.

The update will also incorporate Mixtape Matchmaking, allowing players to create their own custom playlist of multiplayer modes they wish to queue for, and Featured Playlist, a weekly playlist that will offer Double XP and be rotated with each new week.

Killzone 5 Leaked By Dutch Newspaper – Rumor

Killzone series developer Guerrilla Games has just wrapped up work on the superlative Horizon: Zero Dawn, which is due out next week exclusively on the PlayStation 4. Naturally, the tendency for the average fan here may be to expect that for now, there is no new Killzone game coming- and certainly not from Guerrilla anyway.

However, that may not be the case, if this report made by a leading Dutch newspaper, reported on by PlayStation Universe, has any merit to it. According to this report, the newspaper has stated that a new Killzone game is being worked on by Guerrilla’s Amsterdam studio (the main studio, that made the original Killzone games, as well as Horizon). It also seems like references made to his game outside of this newspaper on the internet were deleted after being posted- though this last bit is just an unsubstantiated claim, and should not be bought into blindly (or really, at all).

While one can be reasonably sure that a new Killzone will eventually come – it remains, for some perverse reason, a popular franchise – there is also the very high likelihood that if and when it does, it will be some other studio, and not Guerrilla, who will be handed reins to it.

Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy Will Be Only A Timed PS4 Exclusive

While yesterday we reported that PlayStation Ireland’s Twitter account had confirmed full exclusivity for the upcoming Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, it looks like PlayStation Ireland has clarified its statement a bit. Apparently, the upcoming collection of the remastered first three Crash games will not be permanently exclusive to the PS4 after all.

PlayStation Ireland sent out a couple of followup tweets, noting that the game will be launching on PS4 first– which, of course, implies that the exclusivity, such as it is, is timed, and the game will be coming to other platforms later, too. This means that there is hope for Xbox, Nintendo, and PC players to play this later in the year- should they want to, that is.

For now, however, Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is launching on the PS4 on June 30 worldwide. The game will include full remasters of the original PlayStation Crash Bandicoot trilogy, lovingly restored and modernized by Activision’s Vicarious Visions.

Persona 5 New Trailer Shows A Dark Twist On A Beloved Series Mechanic

Fusing Personas is a long, time honored Persona tradition - in fact, that is something you are expected to do, as it’s the quickest way to get more powerful Personas under your wing, and also sometimes the only way to do so. A lot of the times, the bosses you face have ver specific strengths and weaknesses that can only be countered by one specific Persona- and more often than not, that Persona is gated behind a Persona fusion.

In the past, Persona fusion has been exactly that, a fusion of your Personas to create a new one. In Persona 5, however, that is not the case. It is something far… darker, more twisted. Almost disturbing. If you want to know what that is, you can check out the new trailer that Atlus put out for the game today, but bear in mind that there are some contextual and gameplay mechanic spoilers.

The trailer can be seen below. Persona 5 launches on April 4 on PS3 and PS4 in North America and Europe.

Crackdown 3 has been (and still is, to be honest) a long time in the coming- and hopefully this year is the year that we finally get to play it (possibly as a showcase title for the sophisticated tech that the Scorpio will be packing). But the long wait for the game will be worth it, according to Xbox’s Shannon Loftis.

“If you remember how great the original Crackdowns were, with the big, open cities, and as you leveled up, your cars and weapons leveled up, imagine all of that times ten. Crackdown 3 is all about the boom. it is a massive futuristic city. You have smarter enemies, more vehicles, and ore weapons. The destruction and explosions make it an incredible experience,” Loftis said, before confirming for the record that the game is still slated for a release later this year.

That should be music to the ears of Crackdown fans. Are you one of their number? let us know in the comments section if you are looking forward to the game.
