Warframe Chains of Harrow Update Goes Live Today

Digital Extremes’ Warframe will be receiving a hefty new update today with Chains of Harrow. The update will go live at 5 PM ET and will feature numerous new additions. This includes a new frame called Harrow that uses the power of the Void for different abilities. These include Condemn which tethers enemies down, each captured foe reinforcing Harrow’s shields. Penance expends shields to increase reload and fire rate with any damage on enemies turning into healing for Harrow and fellow Warframes.

Thurible channels energy into a buff and grants allies energy with enemy deaths (headshots creating additional energy while Covenant creates an energy shield to absorb all damage and create a bonus to Critical Chance with headshots further strengthening the effect.

Along with Harrow, the update will also provide a graphical overhaul to Earth, add a new Grineer enemy to battle, new weapons and much more. Check out the full patch notes before and let us know what you think of Chains of Harrow in the comments.
  • Play as Harrow: Harness the power of the Void to bolster allies’ defenses and amplify their lethality with Lotus’ newest Warrior, Harrow, using four deadly abilities:
  • Condemn – Cast a wave of energy that chains them where they stand. Each enemy held reinforces Harrow’s shields.
  • Penance – Sacrifice shields to boost reload, and fire rate while converting damage inflicted on enemies into health for Harrow and nearby allies.
  • Thurible – Channel Harrow’s energy into the Thurible to generate a buff. The more energy channeled, the longer the buff will last. Once finished, kill enemies to bestow nearby allies with bursts of energy. Headshots produce extra energy.
  • Covenant – Protect nearby allies with an energy force that absorbs all damage and converts it to a Critical Chance bonus for all those under the Covenant. Headshots are amplified even further.
  • Take the Quest: A disturbing transmission from Red Veil’s spiritual medium leads to an abandoned Steel Meridian vessel adrift on the outskirts of Earth. Inside, strange whispers echo throughout the lifeless vessel. What force unleashed this evil and how can it be stopped? (The Chains of Harrow Quest will appear in the Codex for those who have completed The War Within and unlocked Mot in the Void.)
  • Earth Remastered: Experience Earth like never before with the beautifully remastered Earth environments. Clash with Grineer amidst luscious vegetation and envelope your Warframe in the naturalistic lighting and a remastered soundscape. Visit any of the Earth Terrain Missions to experience this stunning overhaul.
  • New Grineer Enemy: Nox is a new enemy that is part of the Elite Chem Strike Unit. Nox wields a toxin-filled heavy gun that shoots blobs of toxic goo that attach themselves to targets before exploding. Take out these gruesome enemies by shooting their glass helmets and exposing their deteriorating skin. Beware of their final moments, as they explode into a lethal cloud.
  • New Weapons:
  • Knell (pistol): Ring the death knell. Every headshot from this scoped pistol increases Critical Chance for a short period.
  • Scourge (spear): Blast targets with corrosive plasma projectiles, or toss the scepter to inflict nearby enemies with an energy field that amplifies their brain waves to attract bullets.
  • New Syandana: A “priestly” addition, the Nave Syandana completes Harrow’s iconic look.
  • More: Check out the new Captura Tiles (Forest tiles), Octavia’s Anthem-related Instrument Pack (Corpus & Grineer Packs), Glaive and Melee Rework (all melee throwing weapons can be used concurrently with secondary weapons), Alt-Helm, new Riven Mods for Melee Weapons, and more.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood Headlines New Batch Of Backward Compatible Games

Xbox One continues to get more and more Xbox 360 games playable on it via the backward compatibility initiative; the newest batch brings us one great, classic and beloved Xbox 360 game, and also a bunch of other less well known ones, but ones I am sure have their fans somewhere.

The beloved game I am talking about is Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, the middle chapter in the Ezio trilogy, and often considered to be the best game in the series, and the last truly great one before it descended into mediocrity (while Black Flag was great, there is also the small point of it hardly being Assassin’s Creed by the time it came out).

You can check out the full list of backward compatible games included in this new batch for yourself below. Which ones will you be downloading?

  • Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
  • Blazing Angels
  • Cyber Troopers Virtual On Oratorio Tangram
  • Raidiant Silvergun
  • Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3

Xbox Game Pass Adding Resident Evil 6, Guacamelee on July 1st

Microsoft noted earlier that Xbox Game Pass, its subscription-based service for Xbox One that would offer access to over 100 Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles at a time, would add new games on the first day of each month. July is nearly here and the company has announced the six games that will be available.

On July 1st, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will get Resident Evil 6, Dead Island: Definitive Edition, Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition, The Flame in the Flood, F1 2015, Bard’s Gold and Monaco: What’s Yours is Mine.

It should be noted that some Xbox Game Pass games would be cycled out each month. Microsoft hasn’t indicated which games will be removed to make room for the above but it did say that Game Pass titles would be up for a long time. Regardless, take advantage of what interests you when July 1st rolls around.

Xbox Game Pass currently costs $10 per month and doesn’t require Xbox Live Gold (except for multiplayer titles that require it).

Uncharted: Golden Abyss Could Come To PS4, Naughty Dog Suggests

The entire Uncharted series is now playable on the PS4, thanks to the re-release of the PS3 games via the Nathan Drake Collection, as well as Uncharted 4 being a PS4 game. Well, all of it, except for Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Golden Abyss was a PlayStation Vita exclusive Uncharted game that launched all the way back in February 2012. While it did as reasonably well on Vita as you would expect, we haven’t seen much of the game since- even the Nathan Drake Collection omitted it.

So is that game doomed to irrelevance and obscurity by being stuck on the PS Vita? Why has Sony not brought it over to the PS4? After all, it has ported other Vita games over to the PS4 in the past.

Naughty Dog’s Chief of Communication, Arne Meyer, was asked by Finder whether a PS4 port of the game might be possible. According to Meyer, it is possible.

“I think that’s not completely out of the question. I mean it’s not entirely up to us, obviously. I think I was asked this at Eurogamer Expo and Shuhei Yoshida was sitting in the front row and I pitched it off on him and I was like, “you have to go talk to Shu about this,” which is what the case is.

“But it’s definitely not out of the question. I mean anything is possible. I know there hasn’t been talk about that recently, but there’s no reason why it can’t happen either.”

Hopefully it happens- and if it does, hopefully they remove the needless, inane gimmickry that kept Golden Abyss from achieving greatness. We’ll see if it does, though.

Xbox Live Games With Gold For July Include Kane and Lynch 2 and Grow Up

Microsoft has announced the games for Xbox Live Games With Gold for the month of July, and… after a few great months, this month’s offerings are definitely disappointing. On the Xbox One, Runbow, as well as Ubisoft’s follow up to Grow Home, Grow Up, this month.

Xbox 360 users will get LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, one of the most forgettable LEGO games to date, and Kane and Lynch 2, a maligned sequel to an even more maligned game; both of these games will of course also be playable on the Xbox One, but again, that’s not going to really make the selection that much better.

After some consistently great months, I suppose a slump was to be expected. Still, this gives Sony an easy in to have the better lineup for this month- they had an excellent selection last month, headlined by Life is Strange on the PS4 - hopefully they don’t drop the ball this month, either.

SteamWorld Dig 2 Heading to PS4 and PC

Image and Form’s SteamWorld Dig 2, a follow-up to the quirky Metroidvania title that released on 3DS first, will be heading to PS4 and PC. This was announced on the developer’s website and while it will still arrive for Nintendo Switch first, you can expect the PS4 and PC versions to release “within a few days”.

SteamWorld Dig 2 focuses on Dorothy, a steambot who is searching for her companion. Players will use a pickaxe to move through the world, digging through and harvesting resources. It will be interesting to learn more about the world that Dorothy is on, especially since SteamWorld Heist took place in a future where the Earth was destroyed.

Will SteamWorld Dig 2 come to PlayStation Vita or 3DS? The developer answered, “Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita are still important to us. We won’t talk more about portable versions today, but rest assured we have not forgotten where we came from.”

As for a release date, you can expect SteamWorld Dig 2 to release in “late Summer/early Fall” since it’s “pretty much finished now”.

Destiny 2 Will Have “Epic Scenario” With Stories Layered In – Director

With all the hullabaloo about Destiny’s Grimoire cards going away and the Exo-Stranger’s story not being explored in the sequel, Bungie does seem to be putting more effort into the story for Destiny 2. As director Luke Smith told GamesRadar, the “inclusion of a story” is perhaps the biggest change this time around.

“[Destiny 2 is] actually focusing on having a followable narrative, and having a big sort of storyline, epic scenario. Layering the story content in a way we haven’t done yet for Destiny.”

Players will partake in The Red War, Destiny 2’s central storyline and battle against Ghaul of the Red Legion. This focus on a singular antagonist isn’t unlike The Taken King which was also handled by Smith.

“In Taken King it’s certainly something myself and the team tried to bring in and improve. We’ve got the space in Destiny 2 to let that breathe a little.”

Along with a “cohesive campaign”, Smith says that, “That main campaign, that’s what the trailers are about. Then, below that in the layering, you have adventures that are stories about the worlds, the planets and the particular enemies contained therein – it doesn’t directly relate to the Red War, it tells a different story.”

Destiny 2 is out on September 6th for PS4 and Xbox One with a PC release on October 24th. We’ll find out how deep the story goes in the next few months.

New Splinter Cell Teased, “You Will Have to Wait” Says Ubisoft CEO

It’s been a while since we’ve had a new Splinter Cell. Splinter Cell: Blacklist was the last major release and despite rumours about a new game in development, we saw nothing of the sort at E3 2017.

However, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot teased some stuff happening with the franchise. In a Reddit AMA, Guillemot responded to a Splinter Cell question with, “Splinter Cell is a brand we talk about a lot. It’s also personally one of my favorite series. We don’t have anything specific to share at the moment but teams are working on different things, so stay tuned for more.”

Furthermore, he stated on the Ubisoft blog that, “We are receiving lots of sketches and proposals around the brand, and we’re going to pick one up. I think you will be able to see something, but you will have to wait for that.”

Whether a new Splinter Cell is coming or not, it’s obviously not soon. What do you hope to see from the next game in the franchise? Let us know in the comments.

Final Fantasy 15 Episode Prompto’s First 15 Minutes Revealed in New Video

Patch 1.12 to prepare players for Final Final Fantasy 15’s Episode Prompto DLC is currently live. It adds some other new features including the ability to ride the Regalia Type-D off-road. However, with the DLC launching tomorrow, why not get a look at the first 15 minutes to see how it looks?

Much like the earlier teases of a Metal Gear-style mission, we see Prompto sneaking around, battling guards and engaging in some tactical espionage. In some cases, it’s possible to stun guards and then execute a finisher on them. It looks zanier than it sounds.

Final Fantasy 15 will apparently be receiving some more news at Gamescom 2017. With the recent in-game survey having disappeared and Square-Enix promising “good news”, we’re curious to see what future updates they could cook up.

What are your thoughts on the gameplay for Episode Prompto though? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for when the DLC actually goes live.

Battlefront 2 Story Details Iden Versio Saw Both Death Stars Explode As Per New Novel

The story of the upcoming Battlefront II is going to be especially interesting for Star Wars fans. Not just because it’s canonical (yay!), but also because it will be told from the perspective of an Empire loyalist, something that we unfortunately haven’t seen too much of in the series. We already know thanks to the game’s reveal trailer that the game’s protagonist, Iden Versio, leader of the Inferno Squad, has seen the destruction of the second Death Star, but as it turns out, she’s actually seen a lot more.

A new Star Wars novel titled Inferno Squad, written by Christie Gordon, is dropping in soon, and it tells the backstory of Iden and her squad. An excerpt from the novel was recently published by USA Today, and it revealed some interesting details. It turns out that Iden Versio also witnessed the explosion of the first Death Star during the Battle of Yavin when Luke Skywalker blew it up with the help of the Force.

Versio, it turns out, was piloting a TIE-fighter during the battle, and was one of the few Empire agents that managed to escape with her life. You can read the complete excerpt through the link above. Keen eyed fans might be able to decipher a lot more, so go on ahead. Star Wars Battlefront II is due out later this year for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Far Cry 5: Ubisoft Explains Why They Removed Towers And Min-Map

We all punched the air in celebration when we found out recently that Far Cry 5 won’t feature the trademark Ubisoft radio towers. Not that there’s anything wrong with that mechanics- it’s just been done a few times too many at this point. And not just that, it also turns out that the game won’t even have a mini map. We recently spoke with the game’s lead writer Drew Holmes, and when we asked him just why Ubisoft had made this decision, he said some very encouraging things.

“I think it’s because it helps increase exploration,” Holmes said. “I think in Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4 you got into a rhythm of, ‘the only way that I can find out what to do in this area is to go climb a tower, hit a button and all of these things pop up.’ We really wanted to focus on exploration with a sense of, ‘I’m not sure what to do or where to go’.”

“I think when you set a game in a more familiar setting like Montana, we wanted to compare it to, ‘what would I do in this situation?'” Holmes continued. “I’d have to go and try and meet some locals, see if they’d do anything. Or go to a town and see if there’s anything to do around there. So the goal really was to get rid of the towers as a way of forcing me to interact with the people, pay attention to my surroundings. And sort of intuitively figure out, ‘well, if there’s a town here, there’s a gas station down the road,’ so everything sort of feels like a believable world.”

Holmes then went on to tackle the removal of the mini-map from the game, a first for the series. “The removal of the mini map was so you’re not staring at a little corner of your screen saying, ‘what’s new in the world?'” he said. “You’ve got to actually pay attention to the world and making sure that the art side is doing a good job of making sure there are good landmarks to orient yourself. That it becomes more of less the game guiding you on where to go, and more of you saying, ‘where do I want to go, what do I want to do today?'”

As I said, it all sounds very encouraging. The idea of leaving players to themselves in a living breathing world is a salivating one, and as we’ve seen already this year in a game like Breath of the Wild, this absolute freedom of exploration and complete lack of hand-holding can lead to some wonderful, player-made moments. It’s great to see that Far Cry 5 seems to be taking that even one step further by removing the mini-map as well.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy DLC Trophy List Revealed

Vicarious Visions’ Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will have a number of Trophies when it releases but there will be a few more to come. A Trophy list revealed by Exophase indicates two extra Trophies that are part of something called the Lost Treasures DLC.

The Silver Trophy is The Crown Jewel where you must “seek and destroy” to obtain it. An Ancient Antiquity is the Gold Trophy and the description is “Do hard time”. What those could mean remains to be seen and neither Vicarious nor Activision have ever indicated that the Lost Treasures DLC exists.

Adding to the mystery even more is the fact that the first Crash Bandicoot is the one that includes DLC trophies.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is out on June 30th for PS4 and will include Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and Crash Bandicoot: Warped, all developed by Naughty Dog in the PlayStation One era.

Titanfall 2’s Next Update Features War Games Map, Third Weapon Slot

Respawn Entertainment continues to update Titanfall 2 with free content and has announced some of the new features you can expect with the June 27th update. This includes the War Games map, a “remake” of the DLC map from Titanfall which takes place within a simulation, and Traffic, a new mode for Live Fire which takes place between two thoroughfares.

Probably the most significant new feature will be the ability to carry a third weapon as a Pilot. This was a feature in Titanfall but was replaced by the ability to only carry two weapons. With this change, the ability to carry a secondary and anti-Titan weapon has returned.

A new Pilot Execution, Titan Brawl as a permanent mode, Free Agents as the new featured mode and the requisite balance changes will also be made. More information will be provided on balance changes as the update arrives next week.

What are your thoughts on all the new features coming to Titanfall 2? Let us know in the comments.

Overwatch PTR Update Revamps Highlights, Changes Loot Box System

Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch saw a significant update on the Public Test Realm server lately that introduced a highly requested feature – the ability to save and export Highlights. The new Highlights system allows you to keep any highlights for 24 hours and they remain even if you exit the game. Along with the top five highlights of a game, players can also record their own highlights in the middle of a match. If you want to keep the highlights permanently, it’s possible to download them on to your system, tinkering with the resolution, quality and frame rate to improve the final video.

But perhaps the more significant change is that to the Loot Boxes. Duplicates gained in Loot Boxes will be reduced significantly and to compensate for Credits that you’d otherwise get from dupes, the amount of currency earned will also increase. This should assuage many complaints about the Loot Box system, especially in light of the Anniversary Event.

What are your thoughts on these changes? Let us know in the comments

Super Mario Odyssey Will Have 30-50 Moons Per Level

Moons in Super Mario Odyssey will be analogous to Shines or Stars from Super Mario Sunshine or Super Mario 64. But where Sunshine and 64 usually only had a handful of those per level, Mario Odyssey will apparently go decidedly far crazier with how many Moons it stuffs per level.

Speaking to Kinda Funny Games, a Nintendo rep on the E3 showfloor confirmed that there can be as many as 30-50 moons in a single level of Super Mario Odyssey– maybe even more. This means that levels will be dense- and no matter what you do, you are bound to find a moon, making your actions consequential. This will be similar to how Breath of the Wild handled its content distribution as well. Super Mario Odyssey is due out exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on October 27.

Destiny 2 Beta Content Includes Homecoming, Inverted Spire Strike

Bungie has already confirmed that Destiny 2’s beta will start on July 21st, 10 AM PT for general Xbox One and PS4 users while PC users get a shot in “late August”. We also know that PS4 pre-orders get access on July 18th while Xbox One pre-orders start on July 19th. The beta is otherwise open and doesn’t necessitate pre-ordering.

However, we now know what the beta will contain. Along with the Inverted Spire strike that you’ve been seeing footage of since the game was first revealed, there will be the first story mission “Homecoming”.

Furthermore, there will be three subclasses to try out – Arcstrider, Dawnblade and Sentinel. Interestingly, the PvP content hasn’t been confirmed but it will probably be Countdown on maps we’ve seen already. Bungie could surprise us though.

Destiny 2 is out on September 6th for Xbox One and PS4. PC users get it on October 24th. What are your thoughts on the game so far? Let us know below.

Super’s Lucky Tale Targeting Native 4K and 60FPS on Xbox One X- Report

The Xbox One X is ostensibly the most powerful home console ever made- but the question remains, how many developers will actually bother utilizing and leveraging its extra power, since they have to target the base Xbox One and Xbox One S as well?

Well, apparently Playful is doing that with its upcoming Super’s Lucky Tale, the full 3D platforming sequel to the former Oculus Rift exclusive. The game, which is due to launch on November 7 right alongside the Xbox One X, will apparently be targeting a native 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, according to Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry.

Maybe that has to do with the game running in Unity, but that is extremely impressive- it’s not as though the game doesn’t look nice either (although I imagine the artstyle has a lot to do with that, as well). Whatever the reason may be, there is no denying that hitting 4K and 60fps is impressive, no matter what.

Monster Hunter World Looks Incredible In 25 Minutes Of New Footage

Look, I am as mad at Capcom as anybody for how they are handling Monster Hunter XX, but I’m not going to go ahead and take that out on Monster Hunter World, the next entry in the series, which frankly looks absolutely incredible. Are you not sold on the game yet? You probably will be after seeing this new gameplay footage.

The gameplay footage showcases, among other things, a seamless and dynamic world, possibilities for emergent gameplay, and far, far more. Frankly, the game looks great- and for Monster Hunter fans feeling spurned at how XX has been handled, I would urge them to go into this game with an open mind. What we see looks to be great.

Hopefully, it turns out great, as well. Monster Hunter World launches worldwide on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in early 2018. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more footage and coverage on the game.

Steam Summer Sale Leaked by PayPal (As Usual)

As is the case every year, the Steam Summer Sale’s starting date has been leaked by PayPal. The official Twitter account for PayPal UK noted that it would begin on June 22nd, 10 AM PST/6 PM BST and that it was “official”.

The sale will apparently run till July 5th. Valve has done away with deals that rotate after a period of time and will likely offer more straightforward sales. That’s barring any major changes of course.

Though Valve has yet to make an official announcement about the same, it does seem concurrent with previous rumours that stated the same. Furthermore, PayPal has usually nailed the starting date. We’ll see if that’s the case this year.

A new firmware update has been introduced for the Nintendo Switch. Update 3.0 adds a whole host of improvements and changes to the system’s UI, as well as new avatars, new features, and fixes to some long standing problems.

Among the new improvements is the ability to add your 3DS and Wii U friends by linking your Nintendo Network ID to your MyNintendo account; the ability to find your Switch controllers in the vicinity by firing a signal to them that makes them vibrate, so you can track them down; the ability to play your controllers wired over USB-C; the ability to subscribe to game specific news feeds; configure and customize your notifications; and far, far, far more.

You can check out the full patch notes for the update below. It’s a hefty update, so it may take some time to download.
