Final Fantasy 15 Season Pass Tons of New Details: Bosses, Locations, And More

Final Fantasy 15 promises to be a massive game when it finally releases- but that won’t even be the end of it, as it seems like there will be a lot of extensive post launch DLC planned for the game. And in a recent hands on and interview session, the folks at JeuxVideo Live (thanksGameFaq user NoctisPendragon for the translation) gained some new information about what exactly to expect from the DLC.

For instance, it sounds like the developers are aiming to focus on Noctis’ friends more with the DLC, and flesh them out even further. They will be fleshed out not just as story characters, but in terms of gameplay, too. For instance, it sounds like Gladio’s gameplay segments will be action oriented, which sounds like it will be taking a lot of cues from Dark Souls and Bloodborne and the like. Sawatari Haru Yoshi, the DLC director for Final Fantasy 15, also conceded that the team is aware of the demand for DLC starring Luna, and that it may yet happen.

As for the DLC itself, it seems to be set in a cave (at least a part of it), with at least one of the bosses being an armored giant- again, something right out of Souls. The DLC will be linked solely to Final Fantasy 15, meaning you don’t need to have watched Kingsglaive or the anime to understand it fully. Final Fantasy 15 will be launching on PS4 and Xbox One on November 29.

Battlefield 1 Twitter Account Takes Shots At Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Again

The rivalry between Battlefield and Call of Duty is a well established one in gaming a this point, played up by none other than EA, the publishers of Battlefield, themselves. Thus far, Call of Duty games have consistently managed to outsell Battlefield, but with Battlefield 1 winning rave acclaim from players and critics this year, and Call of Duty being widely criticized, it looks like this might be the year that Battlefield pulls ahead.

EA are leveraging that fully - they recently posted a tweet that had a short video clip, where a team wins a game against another team in Battlefield. The other team is largely uncoordinated, and the tweet ends up implying that these players must be from ‘a different FPS.’ No game is explicitly named, but those in the know, should know.

Battlefield 1 is available now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare launches on November 4 on the same systems.

Destiny Rise of Iron Known Bugs SIVA Keys Emblem Issues Under Investigation And More

Bungie have acknowledged that the SIVA Key and Sigil of the Young Wolf Emblem issues are both present in Destiny: Rise of Iron– and while the new patch released for the title does not quite addressed them, Bungie did promise that they were looking into them.

The SIVA Key issue sees Keys created by combining fragments forwarded to the Postmaster, even when the player has enough inventory space to keep them on their person. The “Sigil of the Young Wolf” Emblem issue, meanwhile, impedes the player’s ability to unlock the Emblem, or to gain the Student of History Trophy/Achievement.

Both issues are being investigated, and will hopefully be addressed by one of the coming patches and updates for the game. Destiny: Rise of Iron is available now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Destiny itself is also available on PS3 and Xbox 360, but those versions were not upgraded to Rise of Iron, and are no longer supported with active updates, beyond weekly rotations and resets.

Call of Duty Infinite Warfare: ‘We Didn’t Want Sci-fi To Be The Focus’

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare‘s setting has drawn a lot of ire from long time Call of Duty fans, who have been hoping for at least some games in the series to ditch the near future setting, and go back to the modern day and historical conflicts that made the series so popular to begin with. However, we’re stuck with what we have, and Infinite Warfare, going into space as it does, seems to be pushing the games even further into sci-fi territory.

Lead concept artist Thomas Szakolczay mentioned that the studio Infinity Ward did not want science fiction to be the focus for the game- rather, they were trying to capture the grittiness of the Second World War.

“We didn’t want [sci-fi] to be the focus,” he said. “We still wanted it to feel like war was happening and it was almost like we wanted to have the grit of a World War II game; that same kind of character development, that same progression of comradery, the same sort of visceral feel, but with the addition of space.

“It’s our origins and the best war stories were told during World War II,” Szakolczay continued. “There was a clear enemy and a clear heroic force and we just wanted to capture that again.”

Of course, maybe that could have been better achieved with a game that is actually, you know, a World War II era game. Just a thought. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare launches on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 4.

God of War PS4 Won’t Be At PlayStation Experience 2016

SIE Santa Monica’s God of War, a sequel to the acclaimed series which sees Kratos curiously deposited in the world of Norse mythology with a son, turned its fair number of heads at E3 2016. We’ve since learned that the game will have several new features like working in tandem with Kratos’ son to conquer challenges, more exploration and open-ended levels among other things.

It doesn’t seem like new footage will be coming anytime soon and especially not at PlayStation Experience 2016 this November. As per director Cory Barlog on Twitter, “Sadly, I won’t be showing anything of the game at PSX, just heading there to hang out with PlayStation fans and play games.”

However, Balrog also said that, “I promise we will be showing something really awesome when it is ready.”

God of War’s release date is still being figured out but despite the game’s impressive visuals, we know that it runs just fine on a normal PS4. What is there left to look forward to at PSX 2016? Stay tuned for more updates.

Titanfall 2 Devs Shed Light On Future Updates, Fixing Player Stats Display

While it’s still early, Titanfall 2 developers Respawn have been doing everything right the last few weeks. Not only was the day 1 patch for the game a tiny 88 MB but the company has been talking for a while about how updates to the game will all be free.

Now the company is talking about future updates that will bring cosmetic changes and fix a few things they did get wrong out of the box. One of those things is that player stats are not displaying right now. Respawn took to Titanfall 2’s Reddit page to make it clear that the stats are being tracked, and will be displayed soon.

Yesterday, the company also confirmed that there won’t be any kind of season pass because maps and modes will all be free. There will be cosmetic changes that players will be able to purchase, but they won’t be part of a Loot box. Details on those cosmetic changes are likely coming soon. Titanfall 2 is out now.

Battlefield 1 Will Get Classic Mode In The Future

If there is one thing that one can always expect from DICE, it is excellent post launch support for their games. Battlefield 4 is probably the best instance of this, getting great content even three years after its launch, but really, this holds true for all DICE titles in general.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you that work on Battlefield 1 is far from over- DICE will continue to work on the game. In fact, they will even be taking user feedback into account. And one of the things they may be bringing into the game as a result will probably be the Classic Mode. Speaking on his official Twitter profile, DICE producer Ali Hassoon confirmed that the Classic Mode was on DICE’s ‘to do list’ and that it would be coming at some time in the future.

Hassoon also shared some details about Hardcore, which is set to be added to the game some time soon. He noted that for now, health values are set at 100%, while damage is 200%, but that could be changedHe also noted that the compass could be making a return, although he refused to commit to any hard dates- which was also his stance with Battlefield 1‘s Hardcore mode in general, which still doesn’t have a date, although Hassoon promises that it will be ‘coming sooner than you think.’ Let’s hope that it does.

No Man’s Sky Twitter - The Developer Does Not Care About His Fanbase

When No Man’s Sky released earlier this year, I quite liked it. I felt that the game was great for what it was, its misleading advertising and marketing notwithstanding. I enjoyed the game as a fan of astronomy and science fiction, and I was only too happy to award the game an 8 – which, it turned out, was on the higher end of the spectrum as far as reviews for this game were concerned.

What I was not a fan of was how Hello Games handled the onslaught of criticism that came their way in the wake of the game’s launch. Others were not as happy with the game as I was, and many felt duped. They had perfectly fair and valid reasons for feeling the way they felt- and this isn’t even an uncommon sentiment as far as video games go. Destiny, Diablo 3, Counter Strike: GO and Civilization 5 are among some of the games that faced immense backlash at launch- but all those games had conscientious developers who worked hard to be transparent with the fans, keep them in the loop, and continuously updated the games in question to have them line up with what fans had expected. Today, all of those games have massive, vocal fanbases, and are largely believed to be the best games in their respective franchises or genres.

That wasn’t what Sean Murray, the face of No Man’s Sky in the lead up to it launch, did- he went radio silent once the game released, refusing to communicate with fans at all, leaving them in the dark, in the critical period when fans were feeling betrayed and let down. Communication wth fans, and reassurances that proper updates for the game were coming, were instrumental and crucial in this period- but Hello Games didn’t communicate with fans at all, though minor updates for the game were released irregularly.

I was unhappy with this, but I also felt that Hello Games maybe deserved to have some slack cut- they were a far smaller developer, this was their first ‘big’ game, and it had very clearly been a passion project. Maybe they had been depressed with the response to the game, and unable to cope.

But after today, I don’t think I can make any excuses for them going forward. Earlier today, someone gained access to Hello Games’ Twitter and email account, and made ‘official’ posts claiming that No Man’s Sky had been a mistake. Hello Games, understandably, sprung into action and had the tweets removed. That’s not the problem.

The problem is that this caused the sudden re-emergence of Sean Murray, who showed up on his Twitter account, making a casual, light hearted tweet about how Hello Games was watching the TV show Mr. Robot, and stating that the only mistake Hello Games had made had been to not secure their accounts with 2FA. He did not acknowledge the fans’ outcry and sense of “betrayal”, he did not acknowledge his own radio silence for nearly three months, and he did not acknowledge that he had refused to face up to criticism, and had only now decided to re-emerge, when his own name was potentially being slandered.

I think it is now abundantly clear, and I say this as someone who actually enjoyed No Man’s Sky at first- the game was a cynical product, its development led by a team who cares little about the product itself, or the game’s fanbase, and how they received the title. Today, it is clear- No Man’s Sky‘s developer clearly doesn’t give a damn about its fanbase.

Pokemon Sun/Moon Are Nintendo’s Most Pre-Ordered Games Ever

Pokemon Sun/Moon are primed to be a success- as the seventh mainline entry in the Pokemon saga, they were already going to do very well, but the fact that it’s the 20th anniversary of Pokemon this year, as well as the success of Pokemon GO bringing the brand back into the limelight this year, have collectively added to the hype and anticipation for the title.

This has been reflected in the incredibly strong demand for the game. One month ahead of its launch, Pokemon Sun/Moon are already the most pre-ordered games ever in Nintendo’s history. The most amazing part here is that digital pre-orders are not counted in this number, since the games are not available to pre-purchase on the eShop yet.

The thirst for Pokemon is high - the special demo for Pokemon Sun/Moon on Nintendo 3DS is also the most downloaded game demo ever for a 3DS game. It looks like people can’t wait to get their hands on the game, already - which makes sense, too, given how much of a departure from every single Pokemon game so far Sun/Moon seem to be.

New Dead Rising 4 Trailer Shows New Combo Weapons

As the release date for Dead Rising 4 approaches, the developers are showing off all the things we’ve come to know and love about the series. One video showed “Black Friday” as a call back to the mall that was in the first couple of games in the series.

A brand new video has been released that does another kind of throwback. This time the video, which is being shown exclusively on GameSpot harkens back to one of the things that has made the whole series so popular. That feature is the ability to create some truly crazy weapons to fight off the zombies.

The combo weapons are just a part of what’s shown in the new video. Costumes have also been a big part of the series and it appears Dead Rising 4 will be no different. The video shows the game’s protagonist in different costumes to look like Street Fighter’s Akuma and others. Dead Rising 4 is due out for the Xbox One and PC in December.

Skyrim Remaster Already Has 3X More Mods On Xbox One Than On PS4

It looks like Sony’s restrictions placed on mods for Bethesda’s games on PlayStation 4 are hurting the community and longevity of the title, as well as the modding scene. According to WCCFTech, the PS4 version of the game has 38 mods, while the Xbox One version has more than 115 published mods - a difference of over three times.

The discrepancy probably owes itself to the fact that Sony’s policies for what mods to allow on their system are far more restrictive than Microsoft’s, meaning fewer mods can be approved for use on PS4. That, plus according to Bethesda, the Creation Kit was made available first on Xbox One, which might explain the difference, too.

“We’re currently in beta for the Skyrim SE Creation Kit and it went active first on Xbox One. PS4 has only been active for a few days”, Bethesda told IGN recently.

Of course, given that the mods are a great selling point for this remaster, and especially on consoles, this does make the PS4 version of Skyrim‘s remaster far less appealing than the Xbox One version. For once, then, the Xbox One version of a multiplatform game is actually easier to recommend than the PS4 version. Sony really need to do something about this situation, and fast.

Steep Open Beta Will Begin In November

Ubisoft’s newest IP is a bit unexpected coming from them- it doesn’t feature a generic white male protagonist in an open world, with towers to climb and a map to unlock. Instead, it’s a rather exciting looking extreme sports game, Steep. And if you’ve been interested in trying the game out ahead of its launch, to see how it is? Well, we have some good news. An open beta for the game will be held in November, which is next month.

This will follow the closed beta for the game, open to only those who registered, which will be available from November 10 to November 14. The open beta will be held from November 18 to November 21. The beta will include access to nine of the game’s Mountain Stories, spread across three of the seven areas in the final game.

Steep is due to launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on December 2.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX Announced For PS4

The one big problem with Square Enix’s attempted consolidation of all the wide ranging Kingdom Hearts entries, that came out across five separate platforms, and all maintained narrative continuity, was that they put their collections for all games on PS3.

This was well and good, but Kingdom Hearts 3 is a PS4 (and Xbox One) game, and PS4 is not backwards compatible with PS3 games. Worse still, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD is a PS4 game- so you still need at least two platforms to enjoy the entire series.

Well, Square Enix are attempting to fix that. Today, they announced Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, which will consolidate the two PS3 Kingdom Hearts collection into a single collection on PS4. Playing through 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, as well as 2.8 HD, should catch fans up on Kingdom Hearts 3, for when that releases next year on PS4 and Xbox One.

The full list of games in the package is below:

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 ReMix
  • KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories
  • KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days (HD remastered cinematics)
KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.5 ReMIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX

Borderlands 2 and Borderlands The Pre-Sequel Free Download On Xbox One This Weekend

Microsoft are feeling mighty generous right about now. Borderlands 2, and the slightly less good, but still pretty alright Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, are both available to download and play on Xbox One right now for absolutely nothing. That’s right, both games are available free of cost. What’s more, the promotion is available to everyone who owns an Xbox One, even if they don’t have an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

That’s not even all- people who download Borderlands and don’t have Live Gold can still play it with their friends this weekend online, because Xbox Live Gold is also free this weekend. You don’t really have much of an excuse to not at least download these games and give them a try at this point.

Of course, this is limited, and you can only play through to October 30, which is Sunday- after that, one has to presume that you will have to buy the game to continue playing it. Still, it’s a damn good deal, and you can’t really complain about it.

Persona 5’s New English Trailer Introduces Us To Ann

Persona 5‘s English voice cast was revealed some time ago, and it looks like that was all the license that Atlus needed to release the kinds of character centric trailers periodically for English speaking audiences that they had been in Japan leading up to the game’s release.

The newest such trailer that we have on our hands right now is one that introduces us to Ann, who is actually one of the first Persona 5 characters that we were introduced to. Ann’s voice work mostly sounds top notch, and it seems like Persona 5 will continue the long held and cherished tradition of Atlus games having incredible dubs and localization work. Personally, I am holding out for the Makoto trailer- Ann is fine and all, but I’m a Makoto man.

Persona 5 is set to launch on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on February 14, 2017 in North America and Europe (the latter courtesy of the fine folks at Deep Silver).

Pokemon Sun/Moon Trailer Shows Off The Starters’ Final Evolutions, and More

The newest trailer for Pokemon Sun/Moon is out now, and it’s a big one. Among the many things it shows off, the final evolutions for the three starters are revealed (there are some excellent designs here, and the typing for at least two of the three starters is incredible). Other new Pokemon are also shown off, as are some wireless communication features.

That’s not all- some story details and returning characters are also in this trailer, including the return of one very special character that will likely bring a smile to many long time players’ faces. Pokemon Sun/Moon are truly looking to be the perfect 20th anniversary celebration for the franchise, it seems like, in addition to looking like the freshest, most ambitious, best games this series has had in a very long time.

Pokemon Sun/Moon are due out exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS on November 18 in North America and Japan, with the European release following on November 23.

Nintendo Announces Nintendo Switch Presentation For January 12

It looks like we won’t have to wait for much longer to learn more about the Nintendo Switch - Nintendo have confirmed that they will be holding an event for the Switch on January 12 (American Time), which will be livestreamed worldwide.

The event will include multiple details about the upcoming system, including when exactly it is launching, what the pricing will be, what games are under development for the system, and presumably, what titles will be available at launch. This means we only have a little over two months till we know for sure whether or not we will be able to play Skyrim on the go!

I’m pretty excited about that. As of right now, the Nintendo Switch is slated for a March 2017 launch. No specifics on the system (beyond its central concept) are known, though the launch trailer showed off a host of games being played on it, and it looks like Nintendo has a pretty extensive list of third party developers working on the system too. What are your thoughts on this article? Let us know whether you are excited for this reveal in the comments section below.

Xbox One Getting Beam And Dolby Atmos Support, Windows 10 To Receive ‘Arena’

The Microsoft Xbox One has had a bit of a resurgent 2016, especially in the second half of this year. While most people believe it’s still not selling as many consoles as the PS4, the Xbox One S has certainly helped things. Microsoft has even claimed this console is the best-selling model in the United States.

Now it appears Microsoft has doubled down on its success. During Microsoft’s Windows event yesterday, the company announced it’s about ready to integrate the Beam service. This service is said to allow users to watch live game streams and interact in “near real-time” with broadcasters according.

Basically, this will work quite a bit like Twitch, though it will be native to Windows 10 and Xbox One devices. The other feature that was detailed Arena on Xbox Live. This service will allow users to set a tournament’s style, as well as define the rules for those tournament, invite friends and track tournament progress across XBL or Windows 10. Furthermore, the company also announced that Bitstream Audio Pass which supports Dolby Atmos was coming soon to Xbox One.

Final Fantasy 15 Trailer Shows How To Use Moogles As Decoys

As we get ever closer to the release of Final Fantasy 15, we’re getting a ton of new information. Just recently we heard about what is in store for the PS4 Pro when it comes to Final Fantasy 15 and while that wasn’t great news, a new video should bring a bit of smile to your face. Specifically, the Moogle dolls are supposed to be used as decoys, according to this new video.

It’s apparently an effective decoy as normal enemies in the game will go after the Moogle doll until it is completely destroyed. This isn’t going to buy you hours, as the Moogles aren’t that powerful or strong, but it will get you the time you need to regroup and take the enemy out.

Check out the trailer and get ready as you’ll be able to check it out yourself next month. Final Fantasy 15 will hit the PS4 and Xbox One on November 29, 2016.

PS Plus Games Lineup Announced For November, Is Largely Alright

This month’s Xbox Live Games with Gold lineup was a bit weak– so this was Sony’s chance to come in strong and actually have a better lineup with PS Plus for once. The possibility was high, especially given that last month’s showing was pretty damn good. Unfortunately, Sony have come out with a showing that’s just… alright.

Don’t get me wrong, the PS Plus lineup for this month is pretty good, at least for PS4 owners (Vita owners have been largely left for dead at this point). It’s just that there’s nothing mind blowing here, nothing on par with the offering of Transformers last month, as an example.

PS4 owners will get Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and The Deadly Tower of Monsters, both horror themed offerings, presumably to celebrate Halloween. PS3 owners get DiRT 3 and Costume Quest 2, while Vita owners get… Letter Quest Remastered (also available on PS4) and Pumped BMX+ (also on PS3). I’m actually not even sure what those last two games are.

Still, Vita aside, it’s a good month. But hey, as far as the monthly Xbox Live versus PSN contest for free games offerings goes? I think it’s a wash this time around.

PS4 Getting Two Licensed ‘Pro’ Controllers

Sony themselves may not be making a ‘Pro’ controller for the PS4, because they don’t want to split their customer base (making a PS4 Pro console apparently doesn’t count as splitting your base), but that isn’t stopping third parties from filling the void. Two of those third parties are Razer (with the Raiju), and Nacon, with the Revolution, who are both making ‘Pro’ controllers for the system.

The Raiju is an advanced controller, with ergonomics and customization being its primary considerations. It has two extra bumpers and two extra detachable triggers, a control panel on the front of the controller, two custom profiles, hair trigger and trigger stop modes, for ultra fast trigger responses, detachable analog stick caps, and more.

The Revolution, meanwhile, “46° amplitude dual analogue sticks, enhanced with innovative firmware for advanced eSports accuracy and reach,’ four extra shortcut buttons, an eight way D-pad, two internal compartments with six additional weights, to make the controller feel balanced in your hand, four custom profiles, and more.

Both are due to launch this Holiday season, and in the absence of Sony providing their players with actual options, they look to be your best bets if you want more powerful controllers on your PS4.

GTA Online Getting North Yankton, Liberty City, San Fierro, Las Venturas DLCs - Rumor

Whether or not the single player DLC for Grand Theft Auto V will ever materialize is something that remains to be seen- but meanwhile, Rockstar at least continue to support GTA Online well enough. Increasingly suspected that they do so at the cost of their single player game, at that.

Their support for GTA Online may be about to get even more extensive. According to a rumor originating from the GTA forums, dug up byPCGamer, it seems as though Rockstar are preparing to make GTA Online into a full blown MMO. The rumor in question is from a user with a known track record for being accurate- so there may be something here.

According to this rumor, GTA Online will get bike themed DLC (which it got earlier this month), police-themed DLC, a luxury DLC, and other similarly themed updates. But more importantly, map expansions are supposedly in the works. The first will be for North Yankton and Liberty City, to launch in September 2017, with the second being for for San Fierro and Las Venturas, due for release in October 2018.

Both of these are going to be paid add-ons. Apparently both were intended to be part of the main game, but were scrapped earlier owing to the limitations of the Xbox 360 and PS3. They will now be coming for GTA Online on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and have apparently replaced the planned single player DLC for the game.

While GTA Online players are undoubtedly excited about this, I know many will be disappointed at the apparent canning of single player DLC. Me? I’m afraid about Red Dead Redemption 2, and the prospects of its long term support, given that Rockstar seem to be more interested in supporting their online modes over their single player ones now, and that online is a big part of Red Dead‘s marketing.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Gets New Live Action Trailer

You may remember that putting out a live action trailer for Call of Duty games has become quite the tradition. This tradition has been kept in place with the impending release of Infinite Warfare. As is usually the case, this live action video hypes the fact that there is a “soldier in all of us.”

In order to make this point, the video follows a tried and true approach of being completely over the top, with actors being dressed in things you normally wouldn’t find in the heat of battle. The video has a couple of faces you’ll likely recognize in Danny McBride and Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps.

Most surprising of all is likely the fact that Peter Berg directed this trailer. Now that the beta is over for the game, it’s time to wait for the official release. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will hit the PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 4, 2016.

New Steep Trailer Shows Off Crazy Moves

When Steep was first revealed this summer there were promises of some truly crazy things players would be able to do when sliding through snow-packed mountains. A brand new trailer has surfaced this week that underlines the truly crazy things players will be able to pull off.

The other thing that absolutely stands out in this new trailer is just how realistic looking it is. It take a few seconds to realize this isn’t a live action video but rather something using the game’s engine. The fact that one of the snowboarders is using a GoPro camera certainly helps the presentation.

Steep has largely gone under the radar so you’re likely not the only one who isn’t keeping tabs about the game. The basic point is that you’ll be able to do all the crazy tricks and twists and moves you could ever hope to do on some of the scariest backdrops in the world when the game goes live for the Xbox One, PC and PS4 in December of 2016.

Overwatch Skill Ratings Will Be Changing Again

The Skill Ratings in Overwatch will be changing again, with the end result that competitive play should feel a whole lot more pleasant to most players. Basically, the way things will work now, Skill Ratings will tend lower at first, but your gains from individual victories will be higher at lower levels.

“When Season 2 started, we had WAY more players in Gold and Platinum than we initially intended, and way fewer in Bronze and Silver,” explainsprincipal designer Scott Mercer. “This was the result of how we calculated your initial SR for Season 2. We tried to partially reset player SR at the start of Season 2, but the results were not as we expected. Instead, below-average players started Season 2 at a higher SR than they should have been given their performance in Season 1. This meant that as they played in Season 2, their SR would often drop to a lower value, which didn’t feel great. It also meant that there was a much wider variation of skill in the Gold and Platinum tiers than we wanted. This is something we want to avoid in Season 3.”

The end result of all this?

“We’re testing a different way of determining your starting SR for Season 3 on the [Public Test Realm]. We’re leaning more towards trying to keep things fair rather than giving everyone a fresh start. We’re also going to initially tune your SR to be slightly lower to start.

“This change will mean that some players will not start in the same tier for Season 3 that they were placed in for Season 2, and that your SR gains from winning will be a little higher at the beginning of the season. After you play enough matches, however, your SR gains and losses will go back to normal.”

Overwatch is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
