Horizon Zero Dawn Avoids “Complicated Menus”, Provides Accessibility

Guerrilla Gams’ Horizon: Zero Dawn may be taking place in a huge open world with action RPG underpinnings but the developer is working hard to keep things accessible for the majority of players. It also wants to keep its story fairly hidden to encourage players to explore the world and discover its lore according to a new report in Game Informer.

Lead writer John Gonzalez explained that, “For people who are story junkies, for people who like to collect every audio log or text log out there, people who want to have a grand narrative to their game, I think they’re going to be really surprised and delighted by what we have prepared for them.

Director Mathijs de Jonge also said that one thing the team wanted to avoid was “complicated menus. We also didn’t want to go too deep with the RPG features we were developing. We wanted to have a certain level of accessibility and understandability for players. We also didn’t want to go too hardcore with stats, so at some point we just cut it off and said we weren’t going to go any further because it would confuse players.”

Horizon: Zero Dawn is out on February 28th for PS4 and will run at upscaled 4K on the PS4 Pro.
