Left 4 Dead 3 Teased By Valve Developer

Valve can’t count to 3. That’s why we’re still stuck on Portal 2, Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, DOTA 2… you name it. But it appears as though one of their year long teases may finally be bearing fruit- in a tutorial for the Destinations Workshop Tools, Valve’s Tristan Reidford has posted an image hinting at the third game in the co-op zombie shooting series being in development at Valve, and coming out soon.

The eighth image in the tutorial shows a very tantalizingly named Left4Dead3 folder in the navigation pane on the left hand side, alongside other current Valve projects, such as virtual reality. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that nearly 24 hours after the community noticed the tease, the picture was replaced by a poorly Photoshop’d version to remove the Left 4 Dead 3 reference.

If this is true, then we may expect a Left 4 Dead 3 coming out soon, eventually. And considering that all the leaks and teases indicating at it coming out were always accompanied by the nugget of information that Half Life 3 was also in development… no, I can’t permit myself to hope like that.

I can’t!

Ghost Recon Wildlands Progression System Detailed

For all that Ubisoft advertise their games for being ‘open world,’ the fact of the matter is that they’re really very formulaic and defined in how players progress through them. Go to a high spot on the map, unlock a new portion of the map, unlock new quests and sidequests that you can undertake, rinse and repeat.

However, as much as the ‘Ubisoft Tower’ has become a meme, the company seems to actively be trying to distance itself from that system of progression in its new games. Dominic Butler, Lead Game Designer of Ghost Recon Wildlands was asked the one question on everybody’s mind: how will progression in this game work? Surely not more Ubisoft towers, right?

“We’re going to be making a big announcement about that very soon,” Butler said. “The idea is that the players from the beginning are able to, basically the freedom of choice I talked about earlier – it starts right from the moment you turn the game on. You will customize your ghost, the look, the gear, the weapons they have, all that kind of stuff. From the beginning the kind of loadout you want to take with you and in overtime you’re going to get new weapons new attachments; everything is authenticated by the military, by different weapon companies. You’ll be able to grow as a character as well. You’ll have access to new abilities, tools you can modify them.

“So everybody has a drone for example. This is a key part of the player’s toolset. It’s not like it’s just for the recon guy. You can used it in recon to identify threats, and opportunities that are there in the camps. But over time you can find that you can keep it in the air longer, you can get offensive, you can get defensive, you can use it to distract people, you can use it to take out targets, you can use it to disable electricity systems. There are ton of different ways, but the point is we’re not limiting to you to just one thing, there are lots of different ways to play. The progression system is super long, it takes place over the whole course of the game. Whatever you’ve learned you can take those in and out of the sessions with your friends.”

It sounds like Ubisoft will be presenting the player with a lot of options in this upcoming game- which should be more than just the illusion of choice that they usually end up giving players, even when their games are ostensibly open world.

Watch Dogs 2 Will Have An Updated Driving Engine

The original Watch Dogs was a game with a lot of potential, but it was done in by half baked mechanics, as well as by a general dourness that took away from any sense of fun that the game should have had. With Watch Dogs 2, Ubisoft are looking at addressing all the problems with the first game- which includes fixing the mechanics and iterating on them.

Ubisoft have talked about some of the other mechanics that they’ll be bringing up to speed with this new game, but what they have not yet talked about is the driving, and how they plan on improving that over the first Watch Dogs. However, recently Danny Belanger Watch Dog 2‘s Game Director was posed just this question.

“The driving is a completely new engine; we’re working with Reflections in the UK,” Belanger said. “They have a lot of driving experience — we’re using their tech and we’re working with them. We really want to make it more accessible and fun while keeping its physical driving model so it still feels real. We really wanted to respect the players on that and listen to them. Shooting: we’re offering many new tools; 3D printed weapons. It’s essentially close to Watch Dogs one in that mechanic.”

So it sounds like, along with everything else, players can expect better driving physics and mechanics in the new game, too, when it launches this November for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Street Fighter 5’s New Trailer Shows Off The Game’s Cinematic Story Expansion

Months after it launched, Street Fighter 5 will be getting a whole host of features and modes that the game should basically have launched with to begin with. One of these modes is the long awaited Cinematic Story Expansion, which will be launching tomorrow, and which will be made available to everyone for absolutely free.

“Seven “Black Moons” are deployed by Shadaloo, granting M. Bison unimaginable power, as the earth falls into darkness,” Capcom’s description for the story expansion reads. “Seeing the moons mysteriously appear in the sky, Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li embark on an epic journey around the world to retrieve fragment pieces that are the key to stopping the “Black Moons” before it’s too late. Along the way, they encounter the rest of the World Warriors, each of whom have their own agendas and motivations in mind. The final battle between good and evil begins now.”

Street Fighter 5 is available on the PlayStation 4 and PC. The story mode will be launching alongside a bunch of other additions and changes for the game in a major update. You can check out the new trailer for the cinematic story expansion below.

Destiny 2 Will Continue To See Characters Xur and The Cryptarch Developed Further

One thing that Bungie have been doing with expansions for Destiny has been to take unnamed NPCs, and give them more of a personality, and a backstory, so that they become active participants in the series’ rich story and lore. And that, according to an interview that Bungie’s Scott Taylor, the executive producer for Rise of Iron, is a conscious move on Bungie’s part, and a trend that they plan on continuing in the upcoming Rise of Iron expansion- and beyond.

“That’s been the trend, right? We’ve had Eris that we introduced in Dark Below. We’ve learned a lot about her. We fleshed that out further in The Taken King. Petra, who was introduced in a Tower event called Queen’s Wrath in Destiny, then we evolved her story to move to the Reef and talk about the Queen and the Fallen and the history of those things, along with Variks, our first combatant vendor, we learned about him. And then Cayde-6. You finally know who he is now,” Taylor said.

“The fun thing about that is, in Destiny — you can think of these characters as wallpaper or background detail, but I think of them as opportunities for us to dive into. Saladin’s been in the game since the beta, doing Iron Banner, the ritual of Iron Banner in the Tower. You’ve seen this guy whether or not you play PvP. You can run back and go, what’s up with this gong that’s on fire, that looks cool.

“Now, when we came up with this expansion, we decided to take that character that we don’t know much about, this ritual we don’t know much about — we know some of these cool names and these weapons and things, this armor that looks great. Why don’t we find out why he’s doing this and tell that story?”

Speaking specifically about characters like Xur and the Cryptarch, Taylor added that players may see those characters being explored in depth in the upcoming Rise of Iron.

“We’re trying to create these opportunities, and then the expansions are a great place to dive in,” Taylor said. “You see Cayde and you smile now because you know who Cayde is. I feel like I have a good sense of who Eris is. After this release you’ll know about Saladin, and we’re introducing more characters in the new social space that we hope people are curious about too.”

This is definitely something that will make Destiny players happy- especially those invested in the lore. Destiny: Rise of Iron is due out on the PS4 and Xbox One later this year.

Fallout 4 Mods Beta Delayed on PlayStation 4

Bethesda Softworks had originally planned to launch the beta for Fallout 4‘s mods on the PlayStation 4 this month, that too despite performance issues that arose early. However, the developer has since announced that the beta has been delayed and no reason has been provided for the same.

On Twitter, it stated that, “We regret to say that the PS4 mods beta for Fallout 4 has been delayed. We will update everyone when we can.”

It’s likely the delay was due to the same issues from earlier this month and more time is needed to get things right. Mods went live for Xbox One in May and are also available on PC. Bethesda’s mod website also received an update recently that allowed players to report if mods had been stolen or pirated along with providing more flexibility overall.

What are your thoughts on PS4 mods being delayed? Let us know in the comments below.

PC Players Will Not Have To Pay For Xbox Cross Platform Play, Microsoft Confirm

Once not so long ago, Microsoft tried to create their own storefront for PC gaming. It was called Games For Windows Live, and the big selling point for it was at the time unprecedented cross functionality with Xbox (notably, you would have the same Gamertag and you would also share your Gamerscore and Achievements across Xbox and GFWL).

It was a major bust, but the biggest reason for that was Microsoft’s insistence of charging an actual subscription fee for the service- on a platform like PC, where so many other, free alternatives suggest, that went about as well as you might imagine.

Now, they are trying again. The pitch is the same- an Xbox and PC ecosystem, and they have their games that they are selling from their storefront. How do we know they won’t be charging for the service this time? Well, because they said so. We’ve already reported before that Microsoft will not charge users extra for the Xbox Anywhere initiative, which is a complete and extensive Cross Play program for all Microsoft published games. But now, they are also confirming that no extra fees will be required for PC players who wish to play with Xbox players- in spite of the need to interface with Xbox Live in that case.

“If you are on a Windows 10 PC, and log into your Xbox Live account, you can play multiplayer games and take advantage of Xbox Play Anywhere [without any extra charge],” Microsoft’s Xbox head of marketing Aaron Greenberg confirmed in an interview with GamerTag Radio. When asked specifically about cross platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10, he confirmed that there would be no extra charge.

“You can do Cross-Play with games like Gears of War 4 [with no extra charge].”

So there you go- Microsoft may be going for the same pitch again this time that they did the last time, but at least they seem to have learned from their mistakes. Will that be enough to overcome all the other issues with their Windows Store and UWP propositions? I think that Xbox Anywhere provides a value proposition good enough that it might be- but that remains to be seen going forward.

PS4 Slim Also Being Worked On In Addition To PS4 NEO- Report

It appears as though, much like how Microsoft announced the slimmer, smaller Xbox One S in addition to the upgraded Xbox One Scorpio, Sony too will be announcing a PS4 Slim in addition to the PS4 Neo. Apparently, the slimmer PS4 will be revealed by the Tokyo Game Show this year.

This news is coming to us courtesy of Takashi Mochizuki, the popular analyst who is reporting that the PS4 Slim will be released in addition to the PS4 Neo, meaning that he isn’t just mistaking Neo to be a slimmer model. If previous ‘Slim’ versions of PlayStation systems are anything to go by, then it will be a smaller, slimmer, more energy and cost efficient model of the PS4.

The PS4 Slim has not yet been officially confirmed, or even mentioned by Sony- but chances are that Sony will reveal it at the same time as the Neo, possibly as a replacement for the base PS4 model. The Neo has been officially confirmed by Sony, but nothing further is known about the system other than that it exists.

Overwatch Competitive Play Now Live on PC, Coming to Consoles “Soon”

PC players of Overwatch who believe they’re the bee’s knees can now prove it – Competitive Play has gone live on the platform. It’s also been pegged as coming “soon” for PS4 and Xbox One. The ranked multiplayer mode is unlocked after you hit level 25. After playing ten placement matches, you will receive a skill rating from 1 to 100, with 100 being the best, and thus matched to players of the appropriate skill. It should be noted that your skill rating can increase or decrease depending on your wins, losses, your overall performance during matches and the skill of other players.

The first season of Competitive Play will last 2.5 months. At the end of the season, you will receive a number of points which can be exchanged for the new cosmetic rewards, namely Gold Weapons for different heroes, after which your stats will be reset before the next season.

Head on over to Blizzard’s official site to learn more about leaving penalties (which are naturally more severe) and a detailed explanation for how Competitive Play works across different modes.

Xbox Fitness To Be Shuttered Soon

Microsoft announced that the Xbox One’s Xbox Fitness health app will be closing soon,. Previous content that was purchased will, unfortunately, no longer be accessible after July 1st, 2017. Microsoft hasn’t yet discussed whether or not users of Xbox Fitness will be refunded for content they bought previously. This is particularly worrying, as it means that Microsoft Fitness users will not be able to access content that they paid for.

This sets a disturbing precedent that’s already been seen in the mobile space, where companies pull older content without refunding customers. As for Xbox Health, Microsoft had this to say: “While our team is saddened by this news, we couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished in the past two and a half years,” Bell continued.

“We know that many of you have used Xbox Fitness to begin your fitness journey, to supplement it, or as a way to redefine your own fitness story. We’re glad we could be a part of the journey.”

Uncharted 4 Single Player DLC Not Coming Anytime Soon

Even several months before Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End released, Naughty Dog didn’t quite know what it would do with the game’s first and only single-player DLC. So when the developer noted during a recent livestream event that “it will be a while” before information was provided about the expansion, it didn’t really come as much as a surprise.

As it turns out, development on the single-player DLC hasn’t even begun since Uncharted 4 released in May. However, Naughty Dog noted that players will know more “as soon as we’re able to give you more info.”

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End released in early May and garnered much critical acclaim for its campaign. Multiplayer DLC is on the way and will include new cosmetics, maps and modes. In fact, the first multiplayer DLC is out on June 29th. What are your thoughts on when the single-player DLC will arrive and what it will contain? Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s Descent DLC Gets A Great Trailer For Its Zombies Mode

When Black Ops 3 gets the Descent DLC next month (on PS4, that is- it will be launching for Xbox One and PC in August), it will be getting four new multiplayer maps, yes, but let’s be honest, no one cares about that- no one awesome, at any rate. No, what you really want to know about is the new addition to the ongoing Zombies mode story that the DLC will make.

Thankfully, Treyarch and Activision are aware of this- that’s why they dedicate an entire trailer to nothing but showing off Gorod Krovi, Treyarch’s newest chapter in the Black Ops 3 Zombies saga.

“After escaping the swamps of Zetsubou No Shima, the Origins characters are hurled into an alternate, war-torn Stalingrad riddled with Element 115,” the description for Gorod Krovi reads. “Our heroes will face their most dangerous enemies yet among the remnants of a battle between giant mechanized soldiers and ferocious dragons controlled by Group 935.”

Yes, because zombies and mecha soldiers weren’t enough already, now we have to face off against friggin dragons too.

I can’t wait to try this new addition out myself. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Street Fighter 5 New Update Brings Story Mode, Tutorials, New Characters, And More

When Street Fighter 5 launched in February, it was a shell of a game, with a very competent fighting game engine, but very few characters, very little modes, and problems with the few modes that were included. There was outrage, there was pushback, but Capcom had a road map for future content planned, via which the game would be iterated upon.

So far, they have done a good job of sticking to their word, and bringing more new content to the game for free. And with this new update for the title, Capcom will be delivering the most significant expansion of the game yet, adding the promised cinematic Story mode, four new characters, advanced tutorials, new costumes, new stages, and more.

The full list of what Capcom plans to add follow:

New modes (available for free):
  • Epic new single-player story expansion “A Shadow Falls,” a first for Street Fighter
  • Launched single-player Challenge Mode:
  • Demonstrations – beginner, intermediate, and advanced tutorials for all characters
  • Trials – combo trials for all characters
New characters and costumes (available for purchase):
  • Four new DLC characters including Alex, Guile, Ibuki, and Balrog… each with their own unique Character Story. Juri and Urien are coming soon, but they will be playable early in the Story Mode.
  • New Story and Battle costumes for all released characters; Summer costume for Karin
New stages (available for purchase):
  • 3 new stages (Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Kanzuki Family Private Beach) and 3 alternate stages
More free updates (available for free):
  • Update to the in-game shop w/real world money options
  • On-going improvements to matchmaking and online performance
  • “Rage quitting” system implementation
  • Increased lobbies in Battle Lounge for up to 8 players, with match spectating
  • Rematch option for online battles
So yeah, this update seems to almost be like the proper launch for the game, adding features that really should have been in the game right at launch. But hey, better late than never, and I am sure that this update will make a lot of people who had given up on the game by now take a second look at it.

Street Fighter 5 is available now on PC and PS4.

The Banner Saga 2 Will Be Releasing on PS4 Next Week

Xbox One owners will get to play the excellent Banner Saga 2 for free this month, since the title is part of this month’s great yet again Games with Gold lineup, but PS4 owners get to have their own little victory where this game is concerned too- the game will be launching on PS4 early. How early? Why, next week early.

That’s not all, either- it looks like Stoic and Sony are really compensating for not having the game be free on PS4, because the PS4 version will also feature an exclusive ability bonus: a unique level 10+ sword that gives a +3 for all talent ranks, and 20% double strength damage.

“We originally planned to launch later in the month,” Versus Evil’s community director Lance James said on the PlayStation Blog (Versus Evil are porting the game to consoles). “However, because of the combined effort of our friends at Sony and the hard work by the team at Shiny Shoe, we are able to bring this to you much sooner.

“Stoic wanted people to kick start their summer off right and jumped at the chance to get the second game in PlayStation 4 owners’ hands – just three months after the launch on PC and Mac, which is so much quicker than the previous wait you guys had for Banner Saga 1!”

It really is far quicker, there is no doubt about that. The game is great, too, so PS4 owners are in for a treat. Now, if we could just get the promised Vita port of the original game…

Batman: Return to Arkham Delayed, No Release Date Currently

Warner Bros.’ remastered bundle of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, namely Batman: Return to Arkham, has been delayed from its original July 26th release date. A representative for the publisher noted on the WB Games forum that the developer in charge of the remaster, Virtuous Games, would required more time for polish. “After reviewing the progress of the project, the team at WB Games has decided to delay the release of Batman: Return to Arkham to give the team at Virtuous Games additional time to deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience.

“We do not have a release date yet and will be sure to communicate that once we are sure the game will be ready. We know this is disappointing news, but we feel the extra time will allow the team to create the best gaming experience for our fans.”

When will it be out? Your guess is as good as ours but in the meantime, simply revisit Arkham Knight if you want some Batman action.

Uncharted 4’s First Multiplayer DLC Will Be Releasing on Wednesday

The single player mode of Uncharted 4 is exquisite and pretty much perfect, and wouldn’t do well with further additions or expansions. The multiplayer mode, on the other hand, is ripe to receive more DLC, to expand the variety of options and range of choices available to the players.

The good news, then, is that the first bit of DLC for Uncharted 4, which will be focused entirely on the multiplayer mode, will be coming this Wednesday, Naughty Dog have announced. The DLC pack will include a whole host of new content, including new guns, skins, taunts and boosters, as well as the introduction of several requested features, such as custom matches, custom loadout names, and revamped Team Deathmatches.

The new DLC pack will also be accompanied by the very first free map for the multiplayer mode, so it seems like it will be a busy few days for the multiplayer community of Uncharted 4 all around.

Uncharted 4 is out now exclusively on the PS4.

Activision and Bungie really are slowly phasing out support for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Destiny– hot on the heels of the announcement that the upcoming expansion, Rise of Iron, will be coming to only Xbox One and PlayStation 4, comes the announcement that Xbox 360 and PS3 players will no longer be getting access to multiple weekly events.

These include the Trial of the Osiris Crucible event, which will not be available on last gen consoles starting August of this year, as well as Live events, which will simply not be generated on Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game from the same date.

In more crippling news to most Destiny loot hoarders perhaps. Xur will also be greatly culled- he will still show up, but Xbox 360 and PS3 players can expect him to amount to far less. The full list of changes pertaining to him and his inventory are:
  • Individual Exotic Weapons and Armor pieces will no longer be sold by Xûr.
  • Encrypted Exotic Engrams will be sold. These will decrypt into Year 2 Exotics.
  • Encrypted Legacy Engrams will continue to be sold. These will decrypt into Year 1 Exotics.
  • Heavy Ammo Synthesis, Three of Coins, Vehicle Upgrades, Motes of Light, and Glass Needles will continue to be sold.
So, basically, if you really like playing Destiny, and you still only have a 360 or PS3- maybe now’s the time to upgrade? Especially since Call of Duty has (finally) ditched previous generation consoles this year, too.

Super Stardust Delta and Hustle Kings Announced For PlayStation VR

Sony promised that the PlayStation VR would be the best supported VR headset on the market, and so far, they’ve been making good on that promise, with some excellent support for the peripheral lined up already, ahead of its launch in October.

And they aren’t stopping, either. On the PlayStation Blog, Sony announced that Super Stardust Delta, the twin stick shooter that was released on the PS Vita all those years ago, will be coming to the PlayStation VR too.

“Adopting a whole new perspective of gameplay, you will jump into to the cockpit thanks to Super Stardust Ultra VR’s first person perspective and blast countless waves of enemies as they attack from every angle, in a frenetic fight that puts you right in the centre of the action,” Pedro Sousa, Associate Producer for XDev Studio Europe, said.

Another game that will be making its way to Sony’s VR headset will be Hustle Kings VR, which will allow players to look around the pool table in full VR from any angle, allowing the to adjust their shots accordingly. Pool would honestly be a great fit for VR, so I am far more excited for this announcement than I should be.

The PlayStation VR is set to launch on October 13.
